Jerome Billins, one of our illustrious instructors, gave an informative lecture on techniques for interviews. He shared some links to youtube videos and offered these tips for successful interviews:

NEVER ASK A 'YES' OR 'NO' QUESTION
ASK OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS
ASK CONTRAST AND COMPARE QUESTIONS
REPEAT LAST THREE WORDS OF ANSWER
BUILD QUESTIONS FROM THE SUBJECT'S ANSWERS
THE LAST QUESTIONS SHOULD BE:
"Is the anything I have not asked about that you want to share?"

Great stuff to work with and achieve successful interviews.

  1. Sandi and Gilbert met with Mary and Henry Lucas to reminisce about their college days at MSJC. Sandi relates:

Today, Gilbert and I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Mr. Henry Lucas and Mrs. Mary Lucas. They are both alumni of MSJC and were students in the late 60's. After graduation, they both went on the University and pursued careers-- he went into Law Enforcement and she went into Education. They became involved with the school again several years ago and Mary Lucas is currently the MSJC Foundation Board President. Speaking with them was a lot of fun and they had such wonderful, warm stories to share. When they attended MSJC as students, they were part of the Student Government and had a lot of contact with Milo Johnson. Mr. Lucas told us about how how Mr. Johnson liked things done "his way" and Mrs. Lucas told us about her relationship with Carol Hite--the counselor who eventually made Mrs. Lucas' wedding dress when she and Mr. Lucas married after graduation. They both described the wonderful bonds between the students and their instructors and it was easy to see that those bonds held a lot of affection--it made me a little teary eyed and sniffly to hear how close and supportive the faculty was back then and I could tell it meant a lot to Mr. and Mrs. Lucas. Some of the things they spoke of were similar to what we heard in the last interview as well. They mentioned the sports teams as a big part of MSJC, although they had graduated before everything really took off. Mr. Lucas told us more about the early Multi Media work that Mr. Anderson had talked about. One of the traditions they both really enjoyed, and miss today, is the pit BBQ's that Mr. Johnson started-- they would love to see that tradition brought back to what it used to be! Mr. and Mrs. Lucas also gave us some names of people we might look into contacting and shared some of the plans the Foundation has for the growth of the school, including the new Performing Arts center slated for the San Jacinto campus
